In the first Yiya lesson of the pilot, we conducted baseline testing with students and teachers, and began teaching the Keep 'Em Clean Unit (Chemical Engineering: Hand Sanitizers) in the 6 participating Lira schools.
Teaching is led by the Yiya field staff in collaboration with the 4-5 participating science and math teachers at each school (teachers who attended our Yiya Program Pilot Teacher Kick-Off training in February). Our partner teachers are called Engineering Educators.
The Yiya team teaches 40 students at each school twice per week, once during the week and one time slot on Friday/Saturday. The students participating in the pilot are called Student Engineers.
